After leaving the island of Aeolus they were given no wind either. Twelve ships went forward on oars alone for six days, and on the seventh an unfamiliar harbor appeared.
The harbor was a narrow channel closed in by cliffs on both sides. Inside they could see calm water where not a wave rose, and the eleven captains took their ships in without hesitating.
Odysseus alone did what he had always done. He tied his own ship apart in the rocks outside the harbor mouth, because in a strange land he always left himself a way back.
