The ship that escaped the island of the Cyclops rowed on for days. A floating island appeared on the water, and it was Aeolia, ringed with walls of bronze.
Aeolus, the king of that place, received the company. Zeus had given him charge of the winds, and for a month he housed and fed them and listened to the story of Troy.
When it was time to go he brought out a gift unlike any other. He had shut every rough wind into a single bag, leaving only the gentle west wind to push the ship straight on.
