A typhoon fell on the fleet coming home from Troy. The ship of Idomeneus rocked as if it would go over. The mast broke and the men were thrown about inside it.
He raised both hands and prayed toward the sea. “Poseidon, only bring me there alive. And I will offer up the first thing I meet on the shore.”
As the words ended the wind dropped as if it were a lie. The ship did not break and came in to the shore of Crete. And nobody yet knew what that desperate sentence meant.
