At dawn only a hundred or so riders are left with Liu Bei. No one knows where the people are, or his family, or Mi Zhu, Mi Fang, Jian Yong and Zhao Yun. As Liu Bei grieves, Mi Fang staggers up with several arrows stuck in his face. Zhao Zilong has gone over to Cao Cao.
Liu Bei rebukes him. Zilong is my old friend. How could he betray me? Zhang Fei says, Maybe he saw we were at the end of our strength and went to Cao Cao for riches. Liu Bei says, Zilong has followed me since the hard days, and his heart is like iron or stone. Riches will not move him.
When Mi Fang says he saw him ride north-west with his own eyes, Zhang Fei says he will go and find him and spear him dead. Liu Bei stops him. Do not doubt him wrongly. Have you forgotten how your second brother killed Yan Liang and Wen Chou? Zilong must have a reason for going. Zhang Fei will not listen and rides off to Changban Bridge with twenty or so horsemen.
