Olivia’s house had a steward named Malvolio. He ran everything in it and made no mistakes in the work. He also thought himself a very great man, and looked at those under him as barely people.
Olivia’s uncle Sir Toby was living in that house as well. Night after night he drank and sang with his friend Sir Andrew. Maria the waiting-woman and Feste the fool were often in the room too.
One night the noise grew until Malvolio came down in his nightgown. Did they take this house for a tavern, he shouted, and dressed them all down like servants. When he had gone back up, Maria said quietly that she knew a way. She could make that man the laughing stock of the house.
