The ship of the Phaeacians cut the water quietly through the night. Odysseus lay deep in sleep aboard it, and reaching the shore of Ithaca the crew set him down carefully and left.
Poseidon watched that ship as it went back. It galled him that they had carried the man who blinded his son, and right in front of the harbor the ship turned to stone.
Odysseus opened his eyes and still thought the land strange. Athena had hidden the whole country under mist, and thinking the Phaeacians had cheated him, he counted his goods first.
