Wukong threw a feast when he got back to the mountain. He showed off the cudgel and tried on the armor, and the wine went round and the night grew late.
He lay down in the shade of a tree and fell asleep. Two figures in black came up to him then and looped a rope around him.
What the rope caught was not his body. His body was still lying exactly where it had been, and what they dragged away was his spirit.
