A body lay in the field in front of the gates of Thebes. It was Prince Polynices. Nobody could go near it.
The new king Creon had given an order. “He attacked his own country. Do not bury him. Anybody who lays so much as a handful of earth on him dies for it.”
And on the first night somebody covered the body with earth, after which the guards swept it away and stood watch. The next day, in broad daylight, that person came again.
