The new king, Henry the Fourth, did not sleep at night. The journey to the Holy Land he had promised was put off year after year. News of rebellion kept coming in from around the country.
He had one more worry besides. His eldest son Hal did not keep to the court. He kept to a tavern in Eastcheap in London. The king could not even raise the subject in front of others.
The young man the king envied was somebody else. He was Northumberland’s son, and his name was Harry, the same as Hal’s. People called him Hotspur.
