Penelope brought a bow from an inner room. It was the bow her husband had left behind. She stood where she was and spoke to the suitors.
“Whoever strings this bow and sends an arrow through the sockets of twelve axes. That is the man I will marry.” A murmur went through the hall.
Twelve axes were set up in a row. Their handle sockets were lined up in exactly one direction. It did not look like a thing just anyone could do.
