They stayed a night at a temple in Wuji. Sanzang sat under the lamp until late, then fell asleep sitting up.
The door opened and a man came in soaking wet. His clothes were a king’s, and water pooled around his feet.
“I was the king of this country. Three years ago I drowned in a well. The man on the throne now is not me.”
