Rhea felt the child growing inside her and went to Gaia.
“This one I cannot let Cronus swallow.” Gaia took her granddaughter by the hand and told her of a deep cave on Crete.
Rhea went to that cave in secret and bore her child there, and the newborn was the one who would later be called Zeus. She hid the baby far back in the cave, and wrapped a single stone neatly in swaddling instead.
